Thursday morning, Fox11 News reported that Forbes.com announced its list of top American colleges, with Lawrence University as Wisconsin's leader. Listed as #85 of 650 listed in the nation, Lawrence University was ranked the best college in Wisconsin, followed by St. Norbert College, UW-Madison, and Marquette University. Located in Appleton, Wisconsin, Lawrence University is a small liberal arts college located in the city center.
Founded in 1847, Lawrence University integrates liberal arts and science with their critically acclaimed conservatory of music. Individualized learning, community engagement, and development of various interests are primary focuses at Lawrence University. Diversity amongst students can be found in their 1,450 enrolled students each year, as there have been incoming freshman from each state and over 50 countries. The low student-professor ratio allows students to experience an individualized approach to learning. One of the great things about Lawrence University is that professors actually know their students' names, and students feel they can approach their professors if they feel they're struggling or wish to discuss material further.
Lawrence grads also earn the highest mid-career salary of any Wisconsin college. A 2008 graduate says,
"Lawrence University provided me with an invaluable education that has allowed me to get internships while enrolled and a well-paying job after graduation. Classes were tough, but well worth the effort. All of the professors were very encouraging and made themselves available to students during office hours or by appointment if I ever had any questions. I had a very good experience there, and have many great memories to look back on."
Along with an outstanding education recognized by Forbes, Lawrence University provides plenty of extracurricular activities and volunteer opportunities. Whether you'd like to join a sport, club, or volunteer group, there are several options with varying levels of involvement catered to your personal availability and interest.
Criteria for the Forbes list was based on post-graduate success, student satisfaction and retention rate, student debt, four-year graduation rates and competitive awards.
