In shocking news, the brother of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” star Richard Belzer jumped to his death committing suicide this week. On Wednesday, New York Post shared about what happened. His older brother Leonard was 73-years-old when he jumped to his death from his 16-floor Upper West Side apartment building.

He did write more than one note that was found in his apartment. At this time, sources are not sharing who the notes were too but there was more than one of them. He might have addressed his brother Richard but that is still unknown at this time. He lived on the 11th floor of his apartment building. Apartments like this are all over New York City and it is obviously surprising to the tenants when something like this happens in their own backyard.

This is not the first family member of Richard Belzer to commit suicide. His father actually committed suicide back in 1968. The wife of Leonard Belzer died about two years ago. His neighbor Terry Caza spoke out sharing that he hasn’t been the same since he lost her, but said that Richard was in good spirts the last few days. It wasn’t like anyone was worried about him or thought that this was coming.

An employee who worked at the building did share that Leonard Belzer had stomach problems and that he was in a lot of pain. It sounds like because of the loss of his wife plus the way he had been feeling lately that he made the decision to take his own life.

Radar Online shared that so far Richard Belzer is not speaking out about the death of his brother. People who worked at the apartment building said that they were always shocked by how much these two looked like each other. Richard and Leonard were not the same age but could have been twins if you didn’t know any better.

Belzer has been on his Twitter page, but only to send out tweets about links to articles. He has not said anything about his brother, but this actor is also not someone who tweets on a daily basis about his personal life.

You can still catch Richard Belzer in “Law & Order: SVU” when the new season comes back in the fall. It will return to NBC on September 24 for the sixteenth season of the show. This show has a huge following and should be around as long as the fans want it to air.
