"Law of the Few", a local record pool, is coming to the 12 Lounge (1123 H Street, N.E.) on December 9, 2010. This event is presented by Harmony Muzik and will be hosted by Dre "All Day In The Paint".
A record pool is a regional distribution arrangement that gives DJs access to new music at minimal (or no) cost. In return the record companies get feedback and exposure for their artists. The concept of the record pool was originated by legendary New York City DJ David Mancuso during the mid 1970's.
Among the prominent DJs scheduled to appear at "Law of the Few" are: EZ Street (WKYS), DJ Heat (WPGC), DJ Gemini, DJ RBI, DJ J Buttah, and DJ Lady Blaze. Also in attendance will be the talented producers: J-Scrilla, Judah, and AB the Pro.
According to Harmony, this is going to be a very informative and productive affair.
"The main problem with other record pools is they are so exclusive that they offer little opportunity for artists and DJs to network," she says. "We're going to have it set up so artists can walk up to their favorite DJ/producer, introduce themselves and ask questions. It will benefit everyone."
The doors open at 6 pm and don't close until 2 am. Be sure to arrive on time because the evening kicks off with a New Music Listening Session with J-Scrilla. Coast 2 Coast Mixtapes will offer product discounts to all event participants
"Law of the Few" will also feature performances from an all star line-up of artists including: Phil Ade, Wordsmith, Fat Trel, Uptown XO, Jay Mills, K-Beta, Lyriciss, Pro'Verb, and Bear Witnez. A mixtape featuring these artists, and hosted by DJ YKCOR, is available for download. Complimentary copies of this mixtape will be distributed to all attendees.
Harmony believes this event will be another step towards unifying the local music industry.
"Every established label in the area is already on board. The press passes are going fast, and we've already received over 100 submissions for the New Music Listening Session. I'm doing my best, with the help of DJ YKCOR, J-Scrilla, and Dre "All Day In The Paint", to present the best music the DMV has to offer. We're going all out!"
