LaVon Brazill: Colts waive WR after suspension for violation NFL drug policy

Heading into training camp, the Indianapolis Colts have a long list of wide receivers fighting for a spot on the 2014 roster. LaVon Brazill may have made the Colts decision easier. Brazill was waived from the team after his second suspension for violating the NFL's Drug Policy.

Brazill was originally suspended for an entire season after he violated the league's substance abuse policy for the second time in two years. In 2013, Brazill was suspended for the Colts' first four games that season. His first suspension was also related to drug policy violation. The Colts quickly responded to the young receiver's suspension by waiving him from the team altogether.

The same day the Colts announced their decision to waive Brazill, they also signed rookie WR Aaron Burks as an undrafted free agent out of Boise State. Burks joins 5 other rookie receivers on the Colts roster.

Of the twelve receivers on the current roster, half of them are rookies. Along with Burks, the Colts bring rookies Ryan Lankford, Donte Moncrief, Greg Moore, Eric Thomas and Tony Washington to Anderson University for camp.

Aside from newly acquired Hakeem Nicks (6 seasons) and long-time veteran Reggie Wayne (14 seasons), the rest of the wide receivers heading to training camp have three years or less experience in the league. T.Y. Hilton (3 seasons), Griff Whalen (3 seasons), Josh Lenz (1 season) and Da'Rick Rogers (2 seasons) are also expected at camp.

Despite his season-ending knee injury in 2013, Wayne is expected to participate at training camp along with his teammates. Wayne tore his ACL in the Colts' victory over Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos in October 2013.
