The Lavender in the Village Festival is an annual tradition held by the villagers of Los Ranchos de Albuquerque where lavender grows abundantly as is thought of as a way of life. This fragrant flower has special properties that is often used for healing, fragrance, decoration, cooking, relaxation and many other health and other benefits. While the Lavender in the Village Festival usually cost money for visitors that are not villagers, this year they are making it free for everyone. This is because they need to scale down the festival and hold it in conjunction with the Los Ranchos Growers' Market located at 6718 Rio Grande Blvd NW.
This year's Lavender in the Village Festival will take place on Saturday, July 12th from 7:00 am- 1:00 pm. The mission of the festival is to promote sustainable agriculture while fostering a community spirit. It will be a lovely time to visit Los Ranchos as the agriculture is in full bloom with fresh cut alfalfa, full ditches and of course lavender. The festival will not only highlight lavender but also garlic. There will be fresh cut lavender and various types of garlic for sale. There will also be demonstrations and classes on how to use the lavender and garlic in creative and useful ways. You can also look forward to products made with each ingredient being available for purchase.
By choosing to shop local and support our local farmers, we are giving back to our community for generations to come. We are also honoring our New Mexican land for the food and plants it is able to provide for us with little water. Lavender means so much to many including love, relaxation, healing, romance and sustainability. Garlic is also thought to have healing properties. The public is lucky that this year's festival will be free so that everyone can enjoy its wonders. However, take some money as there will likely be something cool that you will want to purchase to remember the event by and to add some excitement to your home.
