“LAUSD to count student test scores as 30 percent of teachers' evaluation”

“Los Angeles Unified Superintendent John Deasy announced Friday that student test scores will make up 30 percent of a new teacher evaluation system, sparking a dispute with union leaders who say that isn't what he promised.”

Any teacher in America will tell you that:

TEST SCORES REFLECT THE STUDENTS SOCIO-ECONOMICS.

So, Deasy, who is despised by every teacher in the district, has decided unilaterally to make 30% of the teachers’ evaluation on tests scores.

Teachers should be evaluated on the following:

1. Management

2. Discipline

3. Communication

4. Instruction

5. Caring
Management is how the teacher moves the children throughout the classroom and the school, uses transition time, has materials ready, lessons prepared, and is organized with paperwork.

Discipline is the handling of student’s behavior that needs attention.

Communication includes the teachers dialogue with colleagues, parents, and administrators, particularly keeping parents informed of classroom activities and the work and progress and needs of individual students.

Instruction is the presentation of skills in a manner to meet the learning modalities of all students.

Caring about the students and the instruction.

Not test scores. Never test scores. Any teacher can tell you in detail how each of their students are doing without looking at test scores.

Testing has replaced teaching. Teaching to the test has replaced a total learning package for each student. The costs of tests and test preparation materials have stolen the future from our children.
