Lauren Weyland, the beautiful female comic with the sultry deep voice, is known as the funniest person in Second Life. Every week Lauren hosts 'Open Mic' Tuesdays, where amatuer comedians try their standup for a live audience.
Dont ask my why, but one Tuesday night on the way home I felt particularly funny, so I wrote down a couple one liners and jokes. Thinking I wasn't bad (we always love our own work), I contacted Lauren and asked her if I could reserve a spot next week on her show for a little standup. Her response was "OK, how about tonight?" I said I wasn't anywhere near ready, to which she said "OK, how about tonight?" The rest is history, as they say.
For the last several weeks, My avatar Doc Grun has been doing standup at Lauren's, along with other talented comedians. Lauren thought the show good enough to convince Treet TV, SL's inworld network, to let her host the first ever All Star Comedy Special. The Special can be viewed here.
Besides Yours Truly, the All Star Special featured the comedy of Lauren herself, Catfish String, SecondLie Scribe, host of 'The Grid's Honest Truth' Bubblepop Unplugged, Pooky Amsterdam, host of 'The 1st Question' on Treet TV Sunday nights, and musical entertainer EvaMoon Ember.
While some humor is tailored for the Second Life user, and may not be readily understandable to the non-SL audience, there is no understating the talent of every person who has the courage to step up on Lauren's stage and 'go for the laugh.' It is rewarding to the performer, and a break from RL for everyone else.
Lauren hosts 'Lauren Live Open Mic' every Tuesday at 8pm EST (5 pm SLT).
Come check out Lauren's take on the world, and help support the comedians that make Second Life more special every day.
