Lauren Mitchell's new floor music revealed!

It is impossible, in this era of internet and message boards, to keep something like the World champion's new choice of floor music a secret for very long.

In the case of Lauren Mitchell, the powers that be at Gymnastics Australia didn't even try, though the title of the piece was buried in an article about Mitchell's collaboration with choreographer Adriana Pop published last week on the Gymnastics Australia website:

Adriana Pop, famously known for her abstract & lyrical musical interpretations, has created a routine that will take Lauren to another level and raise the bar.  The music is Queen’s version of Beseme Mucho with the voice of Freddie Mercury in the background.

Reading this of course led me to a frantic Youtubing of the words "Beseme Mucho." It's a popular piece of music -- since it was written by Mexican songwriter Consuelo Velazquez in 1940, it has been covered by almost everyone in the music industry. Elvis Presley did a version, as have Diana Krall, Jet Harris, Dean Martin, Kenny G, The Beatles and Andrea Bocelli (though I was not able to find Freddie Mercury).

For the most part, the faster versions have a rather '60s beach party feel to them, which is something that would work well for Mitchell, whose current, rather avant garde routine effectively masks the lack of ballet in her dance.

Here are a few links:

“I love it!" Mitchell enthused about her new routine. "I feel really free and can be expressive; the music just makes me want to move. I am looking forward to performing my new routine at Nationals and at the World Championships later this year. I hope the judges like it.”

Mitchell, who also unveiled a new whip to immediate double Arabian first pass on floor earlier this season, is expected to compete the new routine at the Japan Cup next weekend.
