The reality star admitted that although she had dreamed of working in fashion from the time she was a little girl, being cast on the hit MTV show is what made that dream a reality. Lauren said her success did not come overnight. She took art classes while she was in high school and also studied fashion in college at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.
But even as a best-selling author and accomplished fashion designer of her own LC: Lauren Conrad collection at Kohl’s, Lauren recalls it was difficult to be taken seriously in the fashion world because of her reality show background. However, she says appearing on the show attracted opportunities that may not have been available had she not been a part of the popular series.
“I was also given opportunities that I wouldn't have had otherwise, so you kind of take the good with the bad," she said. "I think that if you work hard enough, you're going to get there. For me it was sort of a challenge. I was like 'OK, people are going to say these things so I need to work extra hard to show them this is what I want to do and this is not a 15 minutes thing.' This is my career."
Meanwhile, the TV personality has made a fortune from her fashion brands and books. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Lauren's empire is worth an estimated $12 million.
