FC Kansas City midfielder Lauren Holiday, 25, won the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Golden Boot, for leading the league in scoring with 12 goals in 18 games and adding nine assists, which was also a NWSL best.
Holiday, formerly known as Lauren Cheney, married 2013 NBA All-Star Jrue Holiday, point guard for the New Orleans Pelicans, on July 7th, 2013.
Holiday was allocated to FC Kansas City for the 2013 NWSL season. Holiday began her professional career as the first round pick of the Boston Breakers (second overall) in the 2010 WPS Draft.
Holiday scored six goals and added an assist during June, when she claimed the NWSL Player of the Month. She was also named the NWSL Player of the Week for her two-goal performance against Portland Thorns FC in Week 17.
The U.S. Women's National Team midfielder scored at least one goal against all seven other teams in the NWSL during the season, with five goals against the Thorns marking the most she netted against a single opponent.
The UCLA product had three two-goal games and also compiled a NWSL record 10-game streak with a goal or assist.
Holiday will next feature for FC Kansas City versus Portland Thorns FC in the semifinals of the 2013 NWSL Playoffs on Saturday, Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. ET at Verizon Wireless Field in Overland Park, Kan.
