This June weekend, one of the most well known crossroads in the city, the entrance to Balboa Park over the Cabrillo Bridge, takes in its first weekend crowd on the new deck built during the first five months in 2014. Reopened Moonday, the 2nd, after staying closed to drivers during deck constructon, the rebuilt road opened up just in time for San Diego to start off a new period of gatherings at Balboa Park.

Awe inspired Summer crowds will have the easy West road entrance to take. Plans to remake the Balboa Park path have shrunk since the full length wlakers path into the EL Prado, and through the park, got cancelled. But, the repaved walkers Plaza de Panama opened last June, and bridge work stays busy. THe Cabrillo Bridge deck was just the first step finished.

San Diegans can enjoy the 2000s park grounds until the 2015 Centennial Celebration starts off this December. A sunny plaza, just inside the Laurel Street entrance arch, gives visitors new bricks, on both sides of the driving path, to spend time on near the Museum of Man steps, and, an outdoor seating area. The new bricks workers put in during the bridge deck project cover the ground a little nicer than the old bricks the workers took out.

The sights on the grounds did not turn gray, and plain, with age. Balboa Park renovations keep the city's big park a picturesque scene.

More new sights will show up. Construction fences still block the wide open views off the Cabrillo Bridge, both south and north this weekend. Seismic retrofit work on the bridge has to last to Fall. Path light installations will give the Cabrillo Bridge its final touch.

San DIegans just need to take notice. City officials, behind the park key holder, Todd Gloria, did not neglect taking care of the place locals use to take usual life adventure trips, and, visitors put in their tourist plans.

Open space stays at the heart of the city's plans for the future. Traveling the distance on the Laurel Street path never will be a dull trip.
