On Monday, February 3 Wetpaint Entertainment reported that actress Laura Prepon will return for most of the second season of the hit Netflix series "Orange is the New Black," in which Prepon plays the role of inmate Alex the former lover of Piper. The series recently wrapped filming but a release date has not been confirmed. The series is based on the memoir of Piper Kerman.
It was first reported last summer that Prepon would not reprise the role in the second series, resulting in black lash from fans about the direction of the story. However, when filming began for the second series it was reported that the actress would return for a couple of episodes to wrap up her story. Series creator Jenji Kohan recently revealed that Prepon will appear in "most" of the second season, but not all thirteen episodes.
Prepon portrays the character of Alex Vause on the series, a former drug dealer and ex-girlfriend of Piper (Taylor Schilling), who got Piper involved in the drug trafficking that landed her in prison. It's not clear is Prepon's story line will be wrapped up in season two, but the new episodes will focus more on the ensemble cast.
Taffany "Pennsatucky" Doggett, Crazy Eyes, Nicky Nichols, Red, Tasytee, Daynara "Daya" Diaz, and many of the recurring cast from season one have been upgraded to series regulars for season two. A third season of the show has not yet been ordered.
