A brand new Disney Channel original movie is on the horizon and it will star two beloved actresses that are pretty familiar faces from the network's current and past lineup of shows. According to Variety, who reported the news on Tuesday, Laura Marano and Leigh-Allyn Baker will co-star together on “Bad Hair Day” set to air next year
Marano, currently starring in “Austin and Ally,” will play the role of a teen whiz kid who has her sights set on being her school’s prom queen. The day finally comes, but then crazy things start to happen. She doesn't just have a bad day, she has a ‘bad hair' day. Marano’s character is suddenly struck with uncontrollable hair and somehow her prom dress gets destroyed.
Baker will play a cop of all things, who is on a mission to find a missing necklace that the teen unknowingly has on her. The two will have a wild adventure together with a jewel thief, played by actor Christian Campbell, on the loose and chasing after them. It doesn't sound like the girl’s prom goes as planned.
This comedy sounds like a fun movie for the Disney Channel lineup. These two actresses seem like they are both perfect for these roles. It will be interesting to see them in something different than their original characters on their own series. For Marano, this new character sounds a lot like her role as Ally Dawson a smart teen who is just a little awkward at times.
As for Baker, who played Amy Duncan on the now canceled series “Good Luck Charlie,” she goes from being a mom of five kids to a down-and-out female police officer. This is a little different role for her, but the actress is sure to be funny and enjoyable to watch. She is also named as one of the executive producers of this original movie, joining director Erik Canuel as part of the team. This is her first experience at directing.
Fans are used to seeing the 42-year-old actress starring alongside Bridgit Mendler, who played her daughter, Teddy, on “Good Luck Charlie.” The fan-favorite series aired its final episode this past February, leaving behind yet another Disney Channel legacy.
“Bad Hair Day” has already started filming in Montreal, Canada. It is set to premiere sometime in 2015. What do you think of the pairing of Laura Marano and Leigh-Allyn Baker together in this new Disney Channel movie?
