The CDC estimates that Sickle Cell Disease affects 90,000 to 100,000 Americans a year. For those that do not know, Sickle Cell is an inherited disease that affects the red blood cells. Instead of the blood cells being round they are "sickle" shaped. Ulcers, strokes, and anemia, just to name a few, are complications to having Sickle Cell Disease. Death can also be a result of Sickle Cell and having the Sickle Cell Trait if you are not aware and don't take care of yourself. This disease really hits home for me which is why I'm glad this year Laugh 4 A Cure will be benefiting the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America.
