Latinos angry about proposed mobile cell phone ban

Phoenix Latino groups Chicanos Unidos Arizona, Take Back Aztlan, Nuestros Reconquistos and some Latino police officers from the Phoenix PD wrote a letter to the U.S. Dept. of Transportation today to denounce the proposed cell phone ban in cars.

"This law discriminates against Latinos," says Manuel Lingoria of Nuestros. "The only reason they are considering the law is because it will be an easy excuse to pull over Latinos who use cell phones in their cars the most.

"Many Latinos depend on their cell phones for work and family planning. Because many Latinos take on professions that require a lot of driving, this proposed law would hurt their productivity," says Cecilia Maldonado of Chicanos Unidos Arizona.

Pablo Cruz of Take Back Aztlan proposes a law that says any smartphone device should be attached to the dashboard using velcro or something else. Do you feel this proposed law is discriminating against Latinos? Sound off in the Comments section.
