Latino groups to protest immigration laws at 2012 Super Bowl

Phoenix Latino groups Chicanos Unidos Arizona, Take Back Aztlán and Nuestros Reconquistos will fly Latinos from Phoenix, Los Angeles, and other areas to protest at the 2012 Super Bowl in Indianapolis on February 5.

“We are going to be aggressive in the most watched event of the year,” says Nuestros Reconquistos President Manuel Longoria. “We want America to know that Latinos are not going to be treated like animals anymore.” There has been actual talk about interrupting the game, but Cecilia Maldonado of Chicanos Unidos Arizona doesn’t think that will be a good idea.

“There are ways to go about protesting without actually interrupting the game. That may make Latinos look bad. We are going to contact Madonna’s people to see if she can sing an immigration song we wrote for her. We will be in the stands as well.”

Latinos plan to make 2012 a year of immigrant rights. The Occupy Aztlán movement, which targets rich people who live in areas that were once part of Mexico, is also scheduled to begin in early 2012.
