Latino Groups meet with Janet Napolitano

Latino groups Chicanos Unidos Arizona, Take Back Aztlán, and Nuestros Reconquistos met with Dept. of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano in Phoenix this past Friday to discuss border control. Pablo Cruz of Nuestros Reconquistos told Napolitano that she must stop securing the borders from Latinos.

“We want to let in as many Latinos as possible,” said Napolitano. “But we also have to secure our borders from people who would cause us harm. There is a balance that we need to strike,” said Napolitano. She assured all groups that Obama has stopped deporting non-criminal illegal immigrants. Napolitano also talked about a time in the short future where there won’t be a border between Mexico and the United States.

“We tried to get the Supreme Court not to hear about Arizona’s SB1070 anti-immigrant law,” she continued. “Even though they will, we have early indications that the law will not be upheld.”
