Chicanos Unidos Arizona will give a very harsh presentation about the dangers of smoking at the Phoenix Public Library Saturday, December 3, at 9 am. “There are many young Latinos who still think smoking is cool. We are going to introduce a Latino smoker who is expected to die of lung cancer next month at the presentation,” says Cecila Maldonado, President of Chicanos Unidos Arizona.
It is estimated that 20 percent of Latinos under the age of 34 still smoke and that 15 percent are actually chronic smokers. More Latinos smoke than use harsh drugs such as Cocaine. If tomorrow’s presentation is successful, it may continue next year in public schools all over Phoenix and the rest of the country.
