New York City has the honor of claiming a finalist from Sunday Best season two Ms. Latice Crawford-Spain. A native of Queens and anointed to sing the gospel. She help ring in the new year at True Holy Church - City of Refuge for their New Year's concert. It has been a little while since she appeared on the show and a lot has transpired in Latice's life. Latice graciously took some time out before ministering to share about her journey since Sunday Best.
Andre: What has Latice Crawford been up to since Sunday Best?
Latice: Well, Latice Crawford has become Spain since Sunday Best. (lol) Thus, I have gotten married, had a child, taped a reality show, and signed a record deal. I have been traveling and ministering everywhere, inside the country and outside of the country. I have been to Ghana twice to minister. I have been doing a lot, God has been really good.
Andre: How was the experience being on Sunday Best?
Latice: It was amazing. It really taught me a lot about myself, because I used to be a bit of a hermit. I feel like I found myself on Sunday Best, being around so many different people. I truly learned what my ministry was and that this is what I am suppose to be doing. I definitely learned that from being on Sunday Best. I'd say it was exciting and new, a learning process.
Andre: What surprised you the most about being on the show?
Latice: I would say two things, first was that my voice was accepted. I don't have the regular sounding voice, it is very scratchy and raspy. So, to have that accepted and appreciated meant a lot to me. The second would be that my husband and I met on the show. Jeff was also a contestant on the show that season, so that was shocking. I definitely was not going there to find a husband (laughs).
Andre: What are you most looking forward to in the new year?
Latice: I am looking forward to getting started on my project; finding the right songs, producers and singers. I am excited to see what happens after my reality show finishes airing. It will be airing on Centric @ 9pm on Saturdays and an encore presentation Sundays @ 1a.m. The show features my husband and I and the journey of our marriage. S, excited to see if we get asked to do a second season.
Andre: How did the reality show come about?
Latice: I was in L.A. doing some wrap arounds for Sunday Best and someone got wind that Jeff and I were dating. He mentioned that he loved us on the show and wanted to help us out, asking what do you guys want to do? I said jokingly that we should do a reality show, but left it at that. In two weeks, we received a call asking if we wanted to do a reality show. The rest was history.
Andre: How do you define ministry?
Latice: Ministry is something that should change lives. It should change your life as well as other people's lives. People can come as they are, but they definitely should not leave the same after you finish ministering. Ministry should definitely have responsibility intertwined with it. You can't just do whatever you want, live however you want and still say you are ministering. You should be held responsible for the ministry you have been given. You have to do your best to live right, treat people right no matter what your status is. It is important to remain a normal person to people.
Andre: When can we expect the album to drop?
Latice: They are looking to put an EP out around early March of this year.
Andre: Were you overwhelmed by the love you received from New York as you were a contestant on Sunday Best?
Latice: I am originally from New York, so I would say I was surprised because a lot of times New York does not get too hype about much. I am more surprised that I am getting more stuff in New York now and people are truly appreciating what I do. I think it has to do with the personality I have kept throughout all of this. I have not changed, I am the same person. Money changes hands, it should not change people.
