A new set of characters have been revealed by Masahiro Sakurai regarding "Super Smash Bros 4" for Wii U and 3DS. According to a report from Siliconera on May 7, Wonder-Red (whose real name is Will Wedgewood) will be making a cameo in the upcoming title. Unfortunately, he has not yet been confirmed to be a playable character.
Wonder-Red came from the Wii U exclusive game, "The Wonderful 101," which was released in North America on Sept. 15, 2013. The unique action title came from Hideki Kamiya, who previously directed "Bayonetta," "Devil May Cry," "Okami," "Resident Evil 2" and "Viewtiful 2." He is also serving as the director of the upcoming "Bayonetta 2," a Wii U only title that is coming later this year.
Instead of being a playable character, Wonder-Red was showcased as a trophy collectible in "Super Smash Bros 4" for Wii U and 3DS. Masahiro Sakurai also stated that the other members of the superhero team would be added as trophies as well. Unfortunately, no other details about the potential of other appearances have been announced.
A few fans were upset at the possibility of Wonder-Red not being a playable character. Some individuals even commented on a post made directly by Masahiro Sakurai on Miiverse. Nintendo has officially revealed 29 fighters in the upcoming title while the previous installment, "Super Smash Bros Brawl," features 39. So there may be some room to fit in Wonder-Red to the roster before the video game is made available.
The launch of "Super Smash Bros 4" for 3DS is quickly approaching as the handheld game will be released in the summer with a price tag of $39.99. "Super Smash Bros 4" for Wii U, which is priced at $59.99, should come out several months later with a winter release timeframe.
