Latest snow closings and cancellations

Another record-setting snowstorm this weekend? We'll have to wait and see.

Usually on Friday, I tell you what to expect for the weekend and which Washington events can't be missed.

This weekend, with up to two feet of snow anticipated, it might be easier to let you know what's already canceled or closed.

WTOP has a comprehensive list of area school closings and early dismissals.

Theatre:
- Friday and Saturday's performances of Mike Daisey's "The Last Cargo Cult" at Woolly Mammoth Theatre are canceled; an extra show has been added for Monday evening.
- Although this weekend's shows have not yet been canceled, Ford's Theatre is offering ticket exchanges for Friday, Saturday and Sunday's performances of "The Rivalry." An additional performance has been scheduled for Feb. 14.
- Friday evening performances at Strathmore Hall are canceled, as well as all Strathmore events (including classes and tours) Saturday and Sunday in anticipation of the snow. Tickets may be exchanged for other performances through an on-line exchange form.
- Performances at the George Mason University Center for the Arts have been rescheduled. The Mark Morris Dance Group will return June 12, while "The Vagina Monologues" moves to Feb. 27 and 28.

Sports:
- All scheduled events will go on as planned at the Verizon Center as the Capitals go for their 13th straight win, although significant delays are expected on the Metro.

Transportation:
- The Maryland Transit Administration is changing its bus schedule to leave three hours earlier Friday. For instance, if your bus normally departs at 4:00 PM, it will now leave at 1:00 PM. This is an attempt to beat the worst of the storm and avoid massive delays.
- Metro will stop service to above-ground stations once the snow reaches eight inches. Metrobus service is presently operating on a normal schedule but it may be modified once the snow intensifies.
- Amtrak has canceled some service along the Eastern seaboard, specifically in Virginia and North Carolina, with closures expected to extend north.

Museums:
- Baltimore's Babe Ruth Museum has rescheduled its planned "Babe's Birthday Bash" celebration for Feb. 12. Also in Baltimore, the Maryland Science Center is closed today, Feb. 5, due to the storm.
- The National Geographic Museum plans to close Saturday and the Chinese New Year celebration has been canceled. Ticket-holders can call 202-857-7588 for a recording indicating whether the museum is open or closed.

The bottom line: If you have plans for this weekend, be sure to check with the venue or restaurant before heading out. As Snowmageddon 2010 gets closer, this might be a good weekend to hunker down inside and do nothing at all.

Can I use your quote for my article? Thanks. I don't have your email so can't email you. Thanks.

We really got the snow this time. We did hunker down, with wine, chocolate, ice cream, and plenty of soccer games and movies on TV. We may have to venture out tomorrow.
