Downtown Nashville, Tennessee Flooding
The Opryland Hotel flood sent roughly 1500 guests packing to evacuate the rising water in Tennessee. A statue of Elvis lay nearby in a parking lot. The "chocolate milk" Cumberland River was expected to crest sometime Monday night, but not until after it had killed at least 18 people around Tennessee. The total storm related deaths amounted to 27 with an additional 6 bodies found in Mississippi and 3 in Kentucky. Metro Nashville Davidson County Fire Chief Kim Lawson said they feared more drowning victims would be found once the flood waters receded.

Opryland Hotel and the Grand Ole Opry House Flood
According to Associated Press, "Up to 10 feet of water stood in parts of the Opryland Hotel, as restaurant chairs and crates of wine glasses floated by. A life-sized Elvis statue missing his guitar was laying on its back in the nearby parking lot of the Wax Museum of the Stars." Other tourist spots and hotels were evacuated including a Wyndham Resort, and parts of the Grand Ole Opry House, Opry Mills Mall, and the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Nashville Tennessee Flooding
The devastating killer flood dumped 13.53 inches of rain on the city's airport, beating the previous record of 6.68 inches back in 1979. Hundreds of homes were evacuated and unlivable at this time. Nashville schools and businesses are closed after the Cumberland River breached its banks and flood waters rose 12 feet above flood stage.
"The Great Providence Rhode Island Flood of 2010"
The Nashville Tennessee flood is very similar to the Rhode Island flooding that occurred the end of March 2010—without the deaths. Both states received record rainfall amounts over a short period of time.
Although Rhode Island was declared a state of emergency when the Pawtuxet River overflowed its banks, and thousands were left homeless, most Rhode Islanders had enough warning to seek higher ground. Hence, no flood related deaths in R.I. The Warwick Mall flooding, probably one of the most popular searches on the internet during that time, is slowly opening one store at a time, but it's taken over a month to get to that point. The Warwick Mall Showcase Cinemas recently opened, giving hope to the remaining unopened businesses and local Rhode Island people as well.
Also, the Nashville Tennessee flood occurred over the weekend unlike Providence Rhode Island flooding. Even though the Nashville flood is horrific, it could have been so much more devastating had it been during the week snarling weekday traffic from businesses and schools.

what a horrible layout with interruptions and links everywhere.
how could you compare these two floods. i live in nashville and we have several thousand people who are without homes and close to 20,000 without power. we are running out of water in the single water plant we have remaining and the water still continues to rise. there has been minimal coverage of our tragedy. over 56 schools are closed just in our surrounding area because they are flooded. even several days after this has happened we have been sent no help and everyone acts as if this is just a small thing. Hald of our state is now underwater.
Where the heck is Obama? Bush got blasted over his slow response Katrina, but I haven't heard a peep from the Feds over this disaster! These folks are going to need millions to recover from this flood!
hmmm
The facts are so irresponsibly written here. The flood in TN was not at the same time as the one in RI. In fact, this is a flood with deaths and not just flooded basements. True you people were flooded out of their homes, but buildings were not floating down the street.
This is not a fair representation of what is happening in TN. Perhaps actually going there and reporting on it would be a good idea.
My child's daycare did float away. We have pictures, lonely foundation and a builing about a 1/4 mile away.
i was suposed to go to nashville this weekend... i payd over $500 and now i cant go... this sux
Where was the National Guard, In all the rescues shown on tv, I didn't see them.
I feel sorry for the people but it's not unexpected or unforseen. If city planners had planned instead of just accepting and being run over by developers and looked at the 100 yr flood plain they would have seen long ago not to build up right around the river!! The same happened with the Mississippi that caused Katrina flooding. Not the rain but the River just returning to its natural path. Nature ALWAYS WINS in the end.
I'm putting pictures of the flooding on Clixtr. Feel free to add your own and consider donating to the Red Cross.
Pam, we have to apply for federal help, which we did and were approved for. I am not discounting anyone here who has suffered, but Katrina was worse because of how half-assed there local government obviously was. At least we have a great local government that acted promptly and without reservation. No one can just wish the water away.
this is awfull
most of the Tennessee National Guard is overseas right now
I cannot go home...
H.a.a.r.p. did this. no doubt about it. weather manipulation
Yes I agree HAARP flooded my home in Nashville TN, But at what cost? The largest oil spill in History is sitting in wait to come and attach our Gulf coast. Obviously war is good for the economy, right now we are at war with the Oil at bay. If a Hurricane came into the gulf coast. it would blow that oil inland 25 mile. Covering every tree ,car, houses, and buildings. It would be truly a devastating blow for the oil industry, Turning people off to Oil, Thus starting the end to our Great American economy, After a Car makers bail out from the OBAMA we have to keep people driving cars and burning Oil to sustain our economic recovery. Our Economy is based on the buying and selling of energy. I except HARRP's cause and effect for taking away my home. Flood waters recede in weeks effecting thousands, but oil spills can effect millions for decades. Basically they wanted to flush out the central US river systems to push out the Oil deeper into the Gulf. This is a War against the oil spill and the Military is using every weapon to fight it. HAARP is the best we have got, All those Chem trails in the sky. HAARP need these Metal particles up there that dont rust into the clouds, LIKE Aluminum, This acts as a super conductor, just like in a Chicken POT Pie box top, When you put it in the microwave it heats up giving that crispy crust like from and oven baked pie. The same is being done above us. Problem is that what goes up must come down, So aluminum particles are falling onto us. Aluminum is thought to cause things like Alzheimer. If Iron particles were uses they might rust in the atmosphere causing Redish colored clouds, causeing public alarm. Also Aluminum is lighter than other metals. and is Cheaper, just WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW WHATS REALLY GOING ON. OPEN UP YOUR EARS AND EYES LOOK UP AND COUNT THE CHEMTRAILS EACH DAY AS YOU GO TO WORK, YOU CANT IGNORE IT. THANKS FOR READING....
Just remember Obama is still sending all that money and National Guard to fite GWB's wars in Iraq and Afganistan while Tenn residents get screwed by the FEMA bureaucracy. Welcome to Katrina II Tennessee!
obama cant wish the water away.. it was unexpected. you guys want to sit around and talk about nobody doing anything, but i dont see you getting off your butt and doing anything? get off the computer and get down to nashville!!
You all are correct Obama can not stop the Floods, Earth quakes, and oil spills. I CAN TELL YOU WHAT HE CAN DO.
Pass legislation to
1)STOP ABORTION
2)HAVE NATIONAL PRAYER DAY.
3)SPEAK OUT AGAINST IMMORALITY.
That is a start to bring this country in right leadership.
We could sure use a Martin Luther King or JFK RIGHT NOW.
I just visited Nashville this past week and things are looking much better right now.. I wanted to commend the city and community for coming together in a time of tragedy and cleaning up and helping so many in need.. Things were looking great although I know there is a lot more work to do,thanks for being such generous hosts this week too, for the county music awards.. I hope the venues brought in much needed money for your wonderful city!! God bless~
WHY WAS FEMA started,,,, TO SAFE GUARD US FROM THE ADVERSE EFFECTS THAT HARRP MIGHT HAVE ON THE AMERICAN PUBLIC< ITS THERE INSURANCE POLICY TO PLAY GOD WITH THE WEATHER. WERE DID HOLES IN THE OZONE COME FROM HAARP... BURNED HOLES IN THE ATMOSHERE... VOLCANOES HAVE ERRUPTED FOR MILLIONS OF YEARS POLLUTING OUR SKYS, BEYOND LIVIBALE CONDITIONS. BUT OUR PLANET HAS A WAY OF CLEANING THE AIR, OBVIUSLY,,,, POLLUTION DIDNT MAKE THESE HOLES. HARRP DID..........
I have a $500 bet going with a friend, that we will not see a Hurricane hit the gulf coast in 2010, I am winning this bet, cause HAARP is doing all the work. It is the war on the Oil spill, weather is winning the fight. Weather modification at its finest..........LOOK up and witness it for your self. ......... ITS Real...
