Icy roads and bad traffic plagued Atlanta after snow accumulation on Jan. 28, 2014 turned the city into a gridlock nightmare. After dealing with several issues unrelated to the weather, MARTA kept trains operating as bus routes struggled to commute in difficult road conditions. The MARTA website, Facebook page and Twitter account (MARTAService) are keeping riders posted of changes and delays. For the latest service updates, see below.

Friday, Jan. 31

6:29 a.m. MARTA announced all buses and trains will be running their normal weekday schedule.

Thursday, Jan. 30

8:20 p.m. All bus routes will be running their normal weekday schedule on Friday. Allow extra time for your trip.

7:39 p.m. Rail service announced for Friday. The red and gold rails lines will start on a 20-30 minute frequency, the blue and green lines every 20 minutes. Expected start 5 a.m. More service could be added based on available staff.

6:25 p.m. The following buses are now in service in addition to the routes on the road earlier today:

8:56 a.m. Bus 4 discontinued due to ice. Bus service in Alpharetta and Roswell implemented via routes 85 and 140.

Wednesday, Jan. 29

11:39 p.m. MARTA releases a list of 27 bus routes that will operate on Thursday with modified schedules to provide as much coverage as possible on slick roads. Rail will continue on modified schedule starting at 5:30 a.m.

5:38 p.m. MARTA announced they plan to continue train service until 1:30 a.m., the normal hours. Expect delays. Trains on a modified 20-minute schedule.

12:30 p.m. Update from MARTA: Trains departing from North Springs will terminate at Lindbergh Center. From there, passengers can board a southbound airport train on the gold line. Green line terminating at Vine City. Still no bus service. Mixed-route and regular Mobility bus service will not be available until MARTA gets the “all-clear” from the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) that roads and highways are safe and passable. A number of buses carrying passengers were stranded overnight because of icy road conditions. MARTA is working with GDOT to provide rescue vehicles as soon as possible.

9 a.m. MARTA trains running with delays. No bus service.

1:06 a.m. MARTA announced that they will likely suspend service until 8 a.m. and will operate on a Sunday schedule with limited bus service.

12:01 a.m. Report that traffic still bad and cars sliding on Old Holcomb Bridge/Alpharetta Road. These conditions affect bus routes in Roswell and Alpharetta (85, 185, 140, 143), which are also unable to get to the North Springs station via Ga. 400 due to ramp closure.

Tuesday, Jan. 28

11:52 p.m. MARTA still working hard to get passengers to final destinations. But weather a challenge.

11 p.m. Confirmed MARTA trains still operating. Trains normally operate until 1:30 a.m.

10:37 p.m. Reports of stalled MARTA buses near East Atlanta Village

6:15 p.m. 400 ramp exit to the North Springs MARTA station closed until Wednesday at 6:45 p.m.
