The local 10:00 p.m. newscasts WPMI-TV and WEAR-TV produced on Thursday, February 14th were extended beyond the times they were set to end originally due to news about the arrival of the disabled cruise ship "Triumph" of the Carnival Cruise Lines at the Alabama Cruise Terminal in Mobile. The newscast produced by WPMI-TV by 10:54 p.m. and the newscast produced by WEAR-TV ended by 11:21 p.m.
WPMI-TV usually ended their 10:00 p.m. newscasts by 10:31 p.m. from Monday through Friday and WEAR-TV usually ended their 10:00 p.m. newscasts by 11:00 p.m. from Monday through Friday. As a result of WPMI-TV ending their newscast later than usual on February 14th, their broadcast of "Tonight", a variety show from NBC, began by 10:54 p.m. (rather than its normal start time of 10:35 p.m.) with the program all ready in progress. As for WEAR-TV, their extended newscast on February 14th resulted in their broadcast of "Jimmy Kimmel Live", a variety show from ABC, beginning at 11:22 p.m. (rather than its normal start time of 11:01 p.m.). According to WEAR-TV, "Jimmy Kimmel Live", along with "Nightline", a news program from ABC, and "omg! Insider", a syndicated news program, were all broadcast in their entirety in spite of their later broadcast times.
