In the last year, police filed 3 publicized charges against teachers in Las Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). 225 parents and children are involved in complaints against the school district.
Foxnews reported that Robert Pimental, a fourth-grade teacher at George De La Torre Jr. Elementary has been charged with 15 felonies of molesting 20 students over his 40 year career in the classroom. Apparently he had been allowed in the classroom after other children had reported him 4 and 8 years earlier.
Huffington Post reported that last March, another LAUSD elementary school teacher was charged with 23 counts of lewd conduct. Mark Berndt, 61 year-old teacher at Miramonte elementary, pleaded not guilty to spoon-feeding blindfolded kids his semen as part of a classroom project and other lewd acts. Berndt was turned in by a photo processor who noticed inappropriate pictures of his students.
LA Prosecuting attorney says, "working with the LAPD and the school district, this office will aggressively prosecute any adults who prey upon our children. "
