Last Weekend for Manifestival: Like Oil and Water

This is the last weekend to see Manifestival: Like Oil and Water, from Gaza to the Gulf, a dance concert for social change put on by San Francisco's Dance Brigade.  The Manifestival  performances "acknowledges the fact that we live in a time where everything feels like oil and water: the rich and poor, Republicans and Democrats, hope and fear."  Program two of this final weekend of performances will feature the work of the following artists:

  • Alexa Weber Morales
  • Anne Bluethental & Dancers
  • Dance Brigade (a new piece by Dance Brigade entitled “Swan Song” will be performed)
  • Grrrl Brigade
  • Edris Cooper-Anifowoshe
  • Facing East Dance & Music
  • Labayen Dance with Daiane Lopes

Stella Adelman, Theater / Program Manager at Dance Mission Theater had this to say about Program one:

"The first weekend was amazing. I can honestly say that there was not one weak piece. Each work was strong and so diverse! As one audience member pointed out, we had everything from spoken word to juggling to beautiful Indonesian dance to avant-garde dance-theater to a hysterical commercial for BP to slammin' House dance. I was a little nervous that we had shot ourselves in the foot and that seven artists talking about oil and war would get a little bit redundant and heavy-handed... but that was not the case. The theme was approached from such different angles that each piece just shone that much more light onto the subject."
