The Ohio Department of Natural Resources drawing for trout fishing privileges in the section of Cold Creek that runs through Castalia State Fish Hatchery is coming to a close. Applications must be submitted by January 31, 2010, to be considered.
The non-refundable online application fee is $3.00. Applications may also be mailed, with a fee of $5.00. Anglers may apply only once in a season. Those who are chosen to participate will be notified by mail, when they will receive their permits and instructions, including the fishing date. Permit holders may participate only once, and they may be accompanied by up to two adults and three youth. All participants, including guests of permit holders, must be properly licensed. Separate drawings will be held for a summer youth season and for spring and fall seasons for adults.
Perfect trout water
The Castalia State Fish Hatchery is an ideal fishery for cold water species such as trout. Situated over a subterranean stream, with water temperatures at 50.5 degrees, the hatchery provides stock for many Ohio streams. Located southwest of Sandusky, Ohio, on Homegardner Road, it is one of six fish hatcheries owned by the state of Ohio.
How to apply
The random drawing will be held in early March. Applications may not be faxed or emailed. Interested anglers may apply online at the ODNR Division of Wildlife website.
