SOUTH DAKOTA-Sid Robbins is the last Vietnam veteran to serve with the South Dakota Air National Guard.
While the South Dakota Air Guard still has several Vietnam-era veterans, apparently there are none who actually served in-country.
Just out of high school and more than a little angry that his buddy, Roy Johnson, had been killed in Vietnam, Sid Robbins enlisted.
April 1, 1972, the very day Robbins arrived as a security police specialist in Vietnam, the Easter Offensive began. For those who were not around to know, some 600 North Vietnamese tanks rolled across the border for that offensive and the fighting was intense.
Now, some 40 years later and one day before he turns 60, Technical Sergeant Sid Robbins will step back and start a new phase of his life. Age 60 is mandatory retirement for members of the South Dakota Air National Guard.
TS Sid Robbins retires from the 114th Security Forces Squadron which he joined in 1984.
TS Robbins, thank you for your service to this country. The South Dakota Air Guard will miss you!
