Last Minute Planning for St. Patrick’s Day Celebration

It is late, but there is still time to plan for your St. Patrick’s Day Celebration whether party or dinner. So gather your green and shamrocks and get ready. You can find decorations at  Party City of Woodmen Commons at 1730 E. Woodmen Rd. or call with specific questions at 719-522-1556.

When planning a theme party, you need to decide the nature of the party such as a casual affair with party treats, drinks, and games or a full blown sit down dinner with Irish favorites.

The theme party must be fun and light and musical. The fun comes from everyone donning their best green and you as hostess supplying another element of costume such as Leprechaun hat or Irish headband with shamrock boppers or light up Irish ties; anything to add to the fun. Silliness is an important element for parties and we do not talk nearly enough about it. It gives all parties a relaxing nature where people can freely laugh and be themselves.

Decorate with green or green and black or green and gold. You can add white to the color scheme also. Plenty of streamers, balloons, and Irish décor are the rule. Shamrocks, leprechauns, pipes, hats, all can add to the Irish theme. Do not forget rainbows with pots of gold at their bottoms.

Add anything green for food and if planning a dinner keep the menu Irish and traditional. Beef stew or real Irish stew is a great start unless you wish to cook a corned beef. Add champ which is mashed potatoes with cabbage and green beer. You could opt for O’Brien potatoes. Make green Jell-o or tint foods and desserts green.

Games could be Irish trivia, games where you try to reach the gold at the end of the rainbow or contest to see who can do the best Irish jig. Play lots of Irish pub music and some Celtic women and Lord of the Dance CD’s.

When guests arrive, give everyone a name tag with their new Irish name, simply ad an O to the front of their last name or use real Irish names for the evening.

Have fun without getting too tipsy. Remember to designate a driver or keep all guests overnight at your house when imbibing. Drink responsibly and be a responsible host or hostess.
