If you’re in Santa Cruz and need some last-minute holiday gifts, Homeless Garden Project has some unique offerings including a few food-related items.
Affordable gifts with a cause from Homeless Garden Project
The Homeless Garden Project (HGP) holiday gift boutique, open seasonally in downtown Santa Cruz, offers a variety of affordable gifts including products made in its training program from herbs and flowers grown at the HGP organic farm. Income from gift sales helps provide job training and transitional employment for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, and volunteer and educational opportunities for community members who want to learn about and practice sustainable agriculture and social justice.
A few selections from HGP's food gifts:
- Lavender Shortbread Mix (Organic ingredients, including lavender hand-picked from HGP’s farm)
- Lavender sugar
- Herb biscuit mix
- Herb-infused vinegar
- Strawberry Jam
- Ashby Confections Chocolates and Candies
Non-food gifts available at the boutique include ornaments, bath salts, wreaths, jewelry, soap, hand-dipped beeswax candles, lavender sachets, and handmade cards.
The shop is located on Pacific Avenue between O’Neill’s and Verizon (the official address is 110 Cooper but the entrance is on Pacific).
Hours:
Daily 10am-8pm through December 24
(831) 426-3609.
Founded in 1990, HGP offers many programs – some of which take place in a 2.5-acre organic farm. The organization also operates an organic CSA (Community Supported Agriculture program) from May-October.
