Last minute gifts for independent seniors

Houstonians, as in every city, are scrambling to find a gift for grandma and grandpa.  What do you give to the senior family members?  Let's face it.  Today's seniors, whether active and living independently or in assisted living environments, are the last on everyone's Christmas list simply because they are so difficult to buy for.
Most elderly members of the family would actually prefer the gift of time.  This year, forego the warm socks or sweater.  A visit with the grandchildren, a home cooked meal, a house cleaning or yard project, or a walk with them are the most cherished gifts.
There are actually inexpensive gifts for seniors that will be appreciated because they make everyday tasks easier and safer.  Create a safe walkway over snow and ice with a no-slip ice and snow carpet.  Most elderly enjoy the gift of warmth that shawls and throws provide.  Special tools designed to relieve the difficulty and pain associated with everyday chores such as opening jars will be greatly appreciated and medication organizers continue to be an essential for most seniors.
The most loved gift, for grandma or grandpa, is a photograph.  Through photography, seniors stay connected with the family.  Capturing the children and grandchildren in time, through photography, will make the grandparents smile on Christmas Day.  A gift certificate, for a photography session, is a gift that can be enjoyed by the entire family when photographs of grandma and grandpa are shared.
Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa and great gifts abound for grandma and grandpa.  The creative gift giver is always appreciated.
