It was a ghost town today because everyone was spending Christmas the best way they knew how. Zemrie made the comment, "If you did not make it in time to make Christmas dinner, you can always go to the only place open, your local Walgreens and make a table spread of tv dinners, Little Debbies and a two litter.
There is the traditional white Christmas that becomes more and more difficult to achieve as humans become more creative, busy, or lazy during the holidays. Regina's non-traditional Christmas dinner removes high pressure holiday expectation and keeps the kids busy and teaches them where all that yummy food comes from. You would have to learn how to orchestrate a meal like this from early childhood. Betty shows her non-traditional table spread on Youtube. If she did it alone, it would have taken her all day. This is why people would rather skip cooking and order in Chinese.
"We continued the homemade pizza tradition for some time. As adults, we decided one year to take a slightly different twist. Wouldn’t it be fun to do a themed meal based on ethnic food? We choose Mexican that year and everything from the meal to appetizers to drinks were all Mexican. The rest is history." -Natalie.
Switching it up may not be a bad idea because when time is short, family is scarce or out of state, variety and an open mind may help to make the season bright.
