On Friday a meteor 49-feet or 15-meters wide made some pretty big holes as it broke apart, sending huge segments hurtling into Russia. This meteor, if it had acted like your average meteor, would have disintegrated before hitting the ground, powdering the land with dust and small rocks.
Only one out of 100 meteors that enter our atmosphere each year is the size of a car. It is very rare to see one do this much damage and stay in tact as it did. There was no warning that it was coming, and the shock wave it put out was very powerful. Scientists say it gave off energy 20-times greater than the Hiroshima bomb dropped on Japan.
Some fragments of the meteor are reported to have fallen into a reservoir outside the town of Cherbakul. A 20-ft crater has been found in the same area as well.
There are those who are waiting for absolute solid documentation of the fallen pieces being recovered from the arctic waters before saying that pieces hit the ground. The questions are coming from those who are not there and do not see the big holes. For those at the sites of the fallen pieces, they are basically saying, "What else could have made these holes except for that meteorite?" Of course many other conspiracies have arisen over this meteor.
So, the skeptics can try to make a huge mystery out of this, but Russia was definitely hit by these big pieces of meteorite, and the good citizens of Chelyabinsk and Cherbakul have definitely had a day to remember.
The powers of heaven have definitely been shaken, and men's hearts were failing them for fear today as the sky appeared to be falling. Luke 21:25-26 tells us of the signs we are to be looking for that will occur just before Jesus returns for his bride. “And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and waves roaring; Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.”
We are seeing signs in the sun almost every day. So often there are solar flares that have those in power worried. Some say the moon has been unusual or out of position, although this has not been verified. There definitely has been distress of nations with perplexity. It is very perplexing when you look at the wars, the political, financial and moral distress the nations are in. The seas have been roaring. We remember Japan's tsunami and other tsunami's of the last few years. Just recently hurricane Sandy proved extremely violent with the waves' roaring causing a mixture of high tide and one of the worst hurricanes ever to hit the northeastern portion of the United States.
These events alone are enough to cause men's hearts to fail them. Today's meteor streaking across the sky and large meteorite pieces hitting the earth would be enough to scare anyone who saw it. If you add the sonic boom and the extremely bright flash of light, greater than the light of the sun, you have a terrifying moment. It did cause men's hearts to fail, and we can be sure this was another sign of the times.
Are you ready to meet the Lord? Do you know Jesus as your savior? He loves you and wants you to accept the gift he gave you by dying for you on the cross 2,000 years ago. He rose from the grave to be victorious over death in your place.
Everyone needs a savior because our sin has separated us from God, and without him we would just die in our sins. He died for us so we don't have to. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23) The time is running short. It won't be very long until Jesus comes back for his bride. Are you saved? Do you want to be? God tells us in his word to repent of our sins, believe that God raised Jesus from the dead, and “..call upon the name of the Lord and you shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13).
If you know the Lord Jesus, now is the time to get your life right with God. It's vital that in these last days we live for him, repenting of our sins and watching for his return. “Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.” (Luke 21:36) The time to act is now.
A time of “great tribulation” is coming on the earth, a time of trouble unlike the world has ever seen. These signs we have just discussed are the signs that happen just prior to Jesus' return for his bride. We know this because Jesus said in Luke 21:28, “And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draws nigh.” We are seeing these things begin. God is patient, but he promises to judge the earth for their sins. Are you ready to meet the Lord? Are you covered by the blood of Jesus? This is the price he paid for you on the cross. Won't you get ready today? Today is the day of salvation.
