The deadline to enter Colorado's Leadville 100 mountain bike race is January 31. The fee is $15 fee to enter the lottery and if picked,the race entry fee is $275. The $15 lottery fee goes to IMBA, Leadville Trail 100 Legacy Foundation, and to other local charities. The $275 goes to the race promoter. Now that's fund-raising!
The number of entries should be higher this year do to qualifyting races. Last year there were only 1,700 spots for the Leadville 100 mountain bike race. This year Cole Chlouber, of Lifetime Fitness Athletic Events says entries will be limited to 2,000, the U.S. Forest Service cap.

Racers who prefer earning their spot over chancing it in the lottery, can race in several qualifiers around the country. The first qualifier is in April, at the Austin 100 at Rocky Hill Ranch, known as one of the first and best mountain bike ranches in Texas.
On June 2, western racers can compete near Flagstaff, Arizona, for the 4th Annual Landis Cyclery Barn Burner 104. Promoted by Red Rock Racing Co., this race starts at an elevation of 7,000 feet, and comes closest to Leadville in terms of lung burn.

Leadville Silver Rush 50 in Colorado
Tahoe Trail 100 in California
Alpine Odyssey100 in Crested Butte, Colorado
