Last Day for 1 Year Reprieve from Obamacare in California

See also

Today is the last day for California residents who need new health insurance to purchase a 2013 Health Insurance plan that will allow a 1 year reprieve from Obamacare. The media's purposeful silence will most likely force millions into the new 2014 Affordable Care Act plans or be faced with an IRS tax penalty.

These long term 2013 Health Insurance plans are standard underwritten plans offered in California by Cigna with an effective date of Dec 15, 2013; however, the last electronic or paper signature date is Saturday Dec 14, 2013.

For a small increase in premium this January, new enrollees may:
* Extend their 2013 benefits up to 12 months.
* Keep the current network of physicians
* Avoid the 2014 Tax Penalty for not having creditable coverage.
* Save money on their monthly premiums

Millions of Americans are in a situation where they believe they only have two choices: Either 1) pay much higher monthly premiums for a new 2014 ACA/Obamacare Plan or 2) pay out of pocket for doctor's visits and the tax penalty, and hope they don't end up in the hospital.

The third, largely unknown, option is to quickly acquire a 2013 Plan from a Top A rated company that offers the extension of benefits. (companies vary by state, not all participating)

So What's a Man to do?

Construct a website with only 2013 Plans that offer the one year extension of benefits in each state where this 3rd option is still an option in December. This I did, informing as many local and national businesses and organizations as possible, especially the conservative ones who seem to be most upset about Obamacare.

With virtually no time left, and every cry and plea falling on deaf ears, I ventured out of my comfort zone yesterday to personally visit the Television stations in San Diego with an urgent message of hope for all CA citizens who do not qualify for Obamacare subsidies or the subsidies are not enough to offset the increase in premiums.

Praying to be led, reminding myself that love for my neighbor should be greater than fear of rejection, I made signs to educate and inform passers by who might see me in front of the News buildings.

The first station I visited was Fox News 5. The front door was locked; however, there was an outdoor phone to call the receptionist or the news desk so I chose the news desk. Sam told me they do not come out but I could send the info I had to him and he guaranteed he would read it. A similar event happened at KFMB Channel 8, although the lady I spoke with via indoor phone made no guarantee that she would read it and did not want it sent to her attention.

An older friend who went with me to both stations suggested I go to the local library to send the info these news stations wanted (info they had already received and perhaps overlooked) but he also questioned "why should they listen to you?" True - who am I but a concerned citizen and a licensed insurance agent with an inside scoop that would actually benefit a large section of their core demographic audience.

At the library I reconstructed my emails, sending actual "proof" from one of the insurance companies with a deadline, as well as another link to the unseen press release. I also sent an email to KUSI Channel 9 where I met a receptionist who called back for someone to come meet me in the foyer. Finally! Mike listened but it's true what they say, when someone looks you straight in the eye with no expression, it doesn't necessarily mean they are really listening, or understand a word you say.

Today, after much prayer, I asked my wife if she would go with me to the last TV station - Channel 10. The gate was closed, and the gatekeeper told me there was a townhall meeting on Obamacare occuring from 10am - 12 noon and the station would be reporting on that. Excellent! When we found the building and went inside, I discovered the purpose of the meeting was to help local residents enroll in Covered Calfornia or Medicaid. The opposite of the urgent deadline for today for those who can not, or do not want to, enroll in Covered CA or Medicaid.

As it stands, not one of the major news channels in San Diego has responded back to me. None appear to be informing the public of today's deadline. All are reporting on issues that could be considered sensationalist gossip that could have waited or gone unreported altogether.

I feel sorry for my fellow man - especially the Conservative Christians who did not vote for Obama, or Obamacare, and seriously need a break, a reprieve, from this Government healthcare nightmare.

Where are the journalists who care? Local, state, and national media are all ignoring this issue. Social media organizations also fail to inform their audiences, many are simply too busy to make the effort despite the mutual financial and social benefit of doing so.

Every person enrolled in a new 2013 plan is one less that will not enter the ACA system anytime soon. The 2013 plans also do not fund birth control or abortions. Plus the cost savings allows for more donations and expendable income.

We've gone from 100% of the United States who could enroll in a 2013 plan with an extension of healthcare benefits, to 70%, to about 60% tomorrow, to 0% by Jan 1st which is just over two weeks away.

I stand like John the Baptist, the voice of one crying in the wilderness - heard by few, believed by even fewer, until the voice has stopped amidst the silence.
