This week saw the season’s last open water swim workout sponsored by Boulder Aquatic Masters. But athletes have one more chance to swim outside the rope at Boulder Reservoir this year, on Sunday September 8. Rocky Mountain SUP Races (who also put on the Denver Triathlon, scheduled for September 22) is putting on a 1.5-mile swim race before the standup paddleboard race.
The swim race starts at 7 AM with check in for swimmers at 6 AM. The swim course will be fully supported with on-the-water volunteers.
Swimmers will also have the opportunity to test out paddleboards in the demo period after the swim race.
Water temperatures at the reservoir have been in the balmy upper 60s, supported by early September’s hot, sunny days, warm nights and lack of thunderstorms which bring cooling rains and winds that churn the reservoir.
As autumn comes to Boulder, outdoor swimming opportunities disappear. Here’s your last chance to get in an open water swim race at Boulder Reservoir for 2013.
