The Boulder Aquatic Masters (BAM) early morning swims are ending for the season on Thursday, September 5. It’s been a great summer of open water swimming, but nothing lasts forever and summer 2013 is in the books.
This Thursday is your last chance this year to swim the reservoir BAM course. The course is 1000 meters, marked by large yellow-green buoys and patrolled by volunteers on kayaks and paddleboards. The course is located at the windsurfing beach, just to the left after you go through the entry house gate.
Members of BAM know about the opportunity through frequent email updates. Non-BAM members can participate as well by paying a small fee at the entry house.
At this time of year, the water is calm and balmy, in the upper 60s. Many swimmers (okay, triathletes probably) opt for wetsuits, and many swim English Channel style. The gate opens at 6 AM, and the swim starts at 6:20.
Sunrise has been spectacular these last days, and there may be no better way to take it in than during an early swim at the reservoir. Whether you want to swim one lap or many, it’s your last chance until next summer.
