CES 2013 wrapped up yesterday; but, there are enough sweet new products to talk about…well, probably until CES 2014. Here are the last of our daily dozen for this show. (See all the others at the bottom of this list.)
Sony featured its Xperia Z and ZL smartphones, with Snapdragon S4 Pro quad core 1.5MHz processor, 1080p HD video, a 5” beautiful screen and a 13-megapixel camera with HDR movie mode. Coming soon.
Scottevest revealed future directions for his TEC inspired jackets with the coolest (warmest??) technology ever dreamed up for your wardrobe. Watch this column for a full feature on the newest thoughts in high-tech clothing.
Solowheel was zipping around the CES showfloor amazing bystanders and making TV appearances. This Segway’ish device is a single wheel, gyroscopically balanced with two platforms for your feet. Lean forward and go. Goes 10 miles on one charge. Recharge in an hour. When you get to your destination, pick it up and stick it in a closet or under your desk. Weighs just 25#.

The AR.Drone 2.0 has been updated to what could be the best personal helicopter model with control from your smartphone, watching the flight from its new 720p HD onboard camera, you can take video and stills as it flies. Flies over 400’ high at speeds up to 30’/second. 50% longer battery life.
While the lens of your DSLR is certainly capable of capturing the visual component as well as any camcorder, that little hole in the front of your camera is certainly not going to get you the best sound. If you are thinking of external microphones, how about using the one you already have with you – your iPhone. Attach the Rode iXY mic, download the app and you are capturing audio the way it needs to be heard.
Got a tablet? Want to mount it somewhere…anywhere? Take a peek at Breffo’s tablet spider. These eight legs bend every which way to hold a tablet just about anywhere. When you’re done, they fold flat, ready to grip a different situation tomorrow.
Ever feel like you needed an extra pair of hands or legs? Novoplex has you covered with their QuadroPro line of quad pods (not tripods). Four legs work in even crazy unique situations and their line of accessories hold even more so you can use both hands on your camera.
Novoflex also makes what is probably the finest quality engineered cellphone holders for your vehicle. When you’re tired of plastic parts breaking or coming apart, you’re ready for precision German metal components from Novoflex.
Photo Studio In-A-Box is for those who want to shoot green screen on the run. In one compact, very portable case, you get two light stands, four 112 light battery operated LED lights, a 6’ x 6’-5” green cloth backdrop and a backdrop stand.
Trek-Tech has the solution for those photographers who spend considerable time hiking and trekking, and don’t want the weight of a tripod. The TrekPod comes together to act as a hiking pole when not in use, but when the need arises, the bottom opens to form a tripod of sorts. Add a Pro Ballhead up top and support a camera up to 13.5 pounds. An OptiMount allows you to attach your camera anywhere on the vertical support to get close to those flowers and insects.
If you want to be somewhere else, the TharoEV will get you there – quickly and without gas. Top speeds up to 45MPH – this battery powered scooter will go 50 to 100 miles before it needs to be plugged back in. Best selling scooter in Europe. Cushey seats, too. Like sitting on a memory foam pillow.
Penclic is a crazy looking, but well thought out multifunction mouse. Holding it like a pen, the base literally glides across your desktop as your hand accurately selects cells in a worksheet or hits edit points in a document. Push buttons act like left and right mouse clicks as well as screen scrolling. If you suffer from RSI using a mouse, you especially need to look into this new way to mouse.
