Shakti Fest draws some of yoga’s biggest names—Shiva Rea, Saul David Raye, Jai Uttal and Donna DeLory to name a few. It was started by Sridhar Silberfein, the man responsible for bringing Swami Satchidananda to Woodstock to do the opening invocation.
The Joshua Tree Retreat Center, where the festival takes place, is located in the high desert three-and-a-half hours from Las Vegas. The center and the land on which it is built is known for its extraordinary qualities.
“This land, though desert, rests upon an aquifer, a running river, producing an intriguing magnetic effect on those who enter this ancient and sacred space. Yogananda had walked this land in earlier times. It truly is a magical place,” state the folks at the Joshua Tree Retreat Center where the festival will take place.
Most of the unique buildings at the retreat center were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and his son Lloyd.
After experiencing last year’s festival, Kitzie Stern reported on her podcast, “It’s hard to find the words to tell you what it’s like to be bathed in an atmosphere of loving kindness for three days and nights but for me it’s what I imagine heaven to be,” said Kitzie Stern in her Shakti Fest 2013 wrap-up.
