Las Vegas Star Trek Convention a first for many con-goers

Creation Entertainment publicity for convention guest Christopher Lloyd

Las Vegas Sci-Fi Examiner Kerstan Szczepanski's story on the Star Trek convention by Creation Entertainment that wrapped up yesterday in Las Vegas reveals just how large the impact of this year's movie will prove to be upon Trek fandom:

"A telling moment during Quinto’s appearance: when asked how many had seen the new movie nearly the entire hall filled with raised hands; when asked how many were attending their first Star Trek convention, more than half raised again. Looks like the J.J. Abrams movie has captured that magic too."

Las Vegas Movie Examiner Terra King has details on sessions with George Takei (Hikaru Sulu in the original series and subsequent movies) and Christopher Lloyd (Klingon Commander Kruge in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock).

A Q&A with William Shatner on Time.com by M.J. Stephey touches upon Shatner's recent  appearance on The Tonight Show spoofing Sarah Palin's resignation speech, and also on Shatner's evolving attitude toward Star Trek conventions in the wake of his appearance in Las Vegas with Nimoy:

"Do you remember what your first convention was like?" Stephey asks, and Shatner responds:

"Well, I declined for the longest time because I thought it was beneath me. Then I got there and realized it was above me."

For more info: Jay David Murphy just posted an article on the Las Vegas convention on Digital Journal with his own great photos of Zach Quinto and Leonard Nimoy, and the Shatner-Nimoy session as well. Murphy also has a feature about the raucous Star Trek: Enterprise cast panel at the convention with Dominic Keating, Connor Trinneer, Anthony Montogomery, John Billingsley, Gary Graham and Vaughn Armstrong, which touched upon fan interest in another television series.
