Las Vegas Rock n Roll Marathon runners pose after the race.
The Las Vegas Rock n Roll Marathon was yesterday, December 6, 2009 and wow what an event it was.
Not only is Rock ‘n’ Roll here to stay, it’s expanding. Maybe not expanding in terms of course length but each year this marathon is gaining in popularity. Elite Racing, a division of the Competitor Group, has taken over the reins of this annual event. With the new organizer and new course this year’s participants rose from approximately 17,000 runners in 2007 and 2008 to just under 28,000 this year.
Caroline Rotich of Kenya was the first to cross the finish line winning $25,000. This was her first full marathon finishing in under 2 hours, 30 min.

The biggest transformation was to revive this annual event by turning it into The Las Vegas Rock 'n' Roll Marathon. The next makeover, the new course, followed the Las Vegas Strip for the entire half-marathon and a good portion of the marathon starting and finishing near the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino.
The Silverman Triathlon, the world's toughest triathlon, was held in Las Vegas in November
The Las Vegas Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon is both a certified course and “qualifier” for the Boston Marathon.
