The Las Vegas NYE celebration routinely involves restrictions on crowds and traffic for safety's sake on the Strip and downtown. The annual road closure announcements for this year's NYE celebration on Dec. 31 were made late yesterday (12/20/2013) by the Nevada Dept. of Transportation.
The Fremont Street Experience downtown will be closed from 5 - 6 P.M. in preparation for NYE events (reopens about 6 P.M.)
Travel intersecting or near the Strip (Las Vegas Blvd.) including Sahara, Russell, Desert Inn, Frank Sinatra, and Koval Lane roads will be unrestricted on NYE. Vehicle traffic on Harmon Avenue west of the Strip will be closed, while the east side of the Strip on Harmon will allow limited access to hotels only.
At 5 P.M., police will close off I-15 ramps to east Tropicana Blvd. At 5:45 P.M., all streets , roads , and alleys leading westbound towards Las Vegas Blvd. will be barricaded between Sahara and Russell roads. All roads leading onto the Strip between Sahara and Russell will be closed by 6 P.M.
Vehicles will be cleared from Las Vegas Blvd beginning at 6:15 P.M. between Sahara and Russell. All vehicle traffic on the Strip will be shut down by 6:30 P.M., along with all moving walkways, elevators, and escalators leading to or crossing Las Vegas Boulevard.
According to police, most roads will reopen at approximately 3:30 A.M. when the NYE party winds down.
