A 22-year-old Las Vegas, Nev., man is accused of slashing the throat of his parents' dog because he simply "wanted to," reported Friday's Las Vegas Review Journal.
On Thursday, a black Labrador retriever named "Serenity," died after her throat was slashed open with a serrated knife wielded by Jeremy Espiritu.
Espiritu reportedly stated to the responding police officer, “I like to hurt dogs.”
According to the police report, when questioned as to whether the dog had done something to warrant the attack, Espiritu stated:
“I just wanted to stab the dog so I sat on the floor and cut its neck.”
Serenity's cries of pain woke Espiritu's step-father, who was at home sleeping after working a night shift.
The man discovered the wounded dog on the floor, bleeding heavily from her neck, but still alive. Though Serenity was rushed to a veterinary hospital, her blood loss proved fatal and she died on the operating table.
Espiritu was taken to jail where he is being held without bail.
