Las Vegas Halloween and Lingerie Show

Las Vegas, NV, March 28-30, 2011.  The semi-annual International Lingerie Show combined with the Halloween costume show to create an enormous event at the Rio Hotel convention center.  By itself the ILS is the largest lingerie trade show in the world; with the addition of the Halloween costume show well over 400 exhibitors took out booth space at the combined event.

At the conclusion of the first day the Show organizers noted that business in these discretionary purchases had been picking up nationwide, and that the number of both buyers attending and purchasing interest was greater than in the past few years.  In this area, at least, there is some hope that the recession is coming to an end.

As is always true, most exhibitors did not hire live models for the event, relying on posters, mannequins and product displays to attract attention to their lines.  Some, however, did have models and, not surprisingly, their booths got lots of attention as a result.  The trend of importing models from all over the country continued; apparently only one vendor (Leg Avenue) used local models, and they had not been hired through a local agency, although both are listed with several local agencies.

One agency in Los Angeles supplies ten models to the event, from as far away as Atlanta and St. Louis, although many were from Los Angeles.  It appears there is an opportunity here for the local agencies, but they have not so far been able to penetrate the market.

One of the models, Trish Richardson, who is listed with four Los Angeles agencies, nevertheless got her job with Seven til Midnight through a national model networking Internet site.  Another was hired by Xotic Eyes of Virginia Beach, who also brought in seven of their employees to work as models for the event.  Sara “X” Mills was the “only a model” out of the group from Virginia Beach.

Other models were hired through recommendations of friends that also modeled at the event, as is often the case.
