Las Vegas has placed well on yet another "bad" city ranking list. In a study conducted and recently reported by CNBC.com , Las Vegas ranked second among the most stressful US cities. The study considered factors such as crime rate per capita, economic indicators, mental health metrics, traffic, divorces, alcohol consumption, unemployment, and suicide rates. The study ranked the country's 50 largest metropolitan areas.
Las Vegas received poor marks for high unemployment rates ( roughly 14% ), high violent and property crime rates, rampant underwater mortgages and poor home values, and high alcohol consumption and suicide rates. The suicide rate ( 18 suicides per 100,000 residents ) was the highest among the top ten ranked metro areas. The resident divorce rate ( 13.2% of the population ) was among the highest in the study.
On the up side, Vegas had the fewest number of cloudy days (65) among all cities studied. All the routine sunshine wasn't enough to placate the real economic factors brought on by the recent recession, from which the community is just beginning to emerge based on visitation and revenue statistics.
The top ten most stressful cities in this study were...
1. Tampa
2. Las Vegas
3. Miami
4. Jacksonville
5. Detroit
6. Orlando
7. Riverside, CA
8. Sacremento
9. Seattle
10. West Palm Beach
It's notable that the state of Florida placed 5 cities in the top ten in this survey. Sunshine ( it's the Sunshine state, btw ) didn't help them much, either. Check out some of our previous articles linked below regarding Las Vegas city rankings, which are, along with this current study, just a mere reminder of the town's routine position as the analogous red - headed stepchild among US cities. That reputation exists despite the fact that Vegas is always among the factual top 3 most popular US destinations from numerous sources.
Cheers... ( still )
