Lars Von Trier (Dogville; Dancer in the Dark) has built another captivating film, as Antichrist was featured at Cannes Film Festival this year, with Danish actress, Charlotte Gainsbourg winning for Best Actress.
Willem Dafoe and Gainsbourg star as "He" and "She" a grieving couple who return to their isolated cabin where they lost their young son. Because of her severe depression, "She" is in a catatonic state at hospital and after no improvement, "He" decides to treat her with exposure therapy by bringing her back to the cabin. After their arrival, they encounter natural and supernatural forces which materialize into their greatest fears.
While some may find this an excellent film, all would agree that is very disturbing. Featuring sexually explicit violence with misogynous and occult themes. Haunting and surreal, Antichrist is a must-see for fans of Von Trier or Dafoe.
