Lamar Sally and Sherri Shepherd's surrogate gives birth to boy

According to TMZ on Tuesday, Lamar Sally and Sherri Shepherd's surrogate gave birth to a baby boy in Pennsylvania today. Shepherd was not present, but Sally was at the hospital during the birth. Sally has been on baby watch for the last few days while Shepherd has been going about her own business.

Shepherd, 47, and Sally, 43, separated after almost three years of marriage. Sources close to the father say he is excited to be a new dad. He had already spent over $5,000 on items for the baby. Sources also say Sally intends to raise Lamar, Jr. himself, but he will still ask a judge to order Shepherd to pay child support because she signed the surrogate contract.

They initially agreed to have a baby through a surrogate, but last May Sally filed for a separation in California and Shepherd filed for a divorce in New Jersey. Then Shepherd said she wanted a judge to rule on her not having to pay Sally child support claiming he defrauded her. She claims his intent all along was to divorce her and request child support. She is hoping the judge will rule in her favor since her egg was not used.

The New York Daily News reports that Shepherd allegedly doesn't want custody of the child or be named as parent, but Sally wants her name on the birth certificate.

People magazine shared Shepherd's tweet where she alluded to the custody battle: "Keep the prayers coming... Still got more battles - please judge me by my character and not from the tabloids who are having a slow news day."

The birth of the baby came on the same day that Shepherd announced on "The View" that she has a starring role in the Broadway version of "Cinderella" starting Sept. 9 where she plays the wicked step-mother. She has been a co-host on the popular daytime talk show for seven years, but her last day is this Friday.
