Larry King: Richard Heene states that balloon boy hoax wasn’t a hoax after all. CNN released excerpts Wednesday from an interview with Richard Heene that will air Friday on Larry King Live. Richard Heene said that the hoax was not planned and that he only said he was guilty because he was trying to stop the local authorities from deporting his wife back to Japan.

"I had to do it to save my family and my wife," Heene said to Larry King. "We had applied years ago for some paperwork. Things got fouled up. We had to reapply so she should have been an American citizen by now, but anyway. I can't -- I can't break up my family."

Richard Heene and his wife, Mayumi pled guilty in November and were both sentenced last month. Richard who pled guilty to felony of attempting to influence a public servant, received 90 days in a work release jail, four years probation, and 100 hours of community service. His jail time begins January 11th.

Mayumi pled guilty to false reporting to authorities received 20 days in jail. She will begin her sentence after her husband serves his.

The Colorado Sheriff who was in charge of the case said this to Larry King in response to Richard Heene’s statement:

"Quite honestly, I'm shocked that he would make such statements. The evidence against Mr. Heene and Mayumi at this point is really overwhelming. There is no doubt in my mind that this thing was a hoax, and I really doubt that there's very few people in America who don't understand at this point that this was an elaborate hoax perpetrated by Richard and Mayumi."
