As Sunday action is set to begin in Week 2 in the NFL, the big fantasy question for the day comes from Arizona where word is that star Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald will be a game-time decision.
Fitzgerald apparently tweaked a hamstring this week and now his teammates and fantasy owners around the world await word on if he can go today. The tough part for the fantasy angle is that the Cardinals host the Detroit Lions in a game that starts at 4:05 p.m. ET so if you need to make a late change, you’ve got to make sure that not all of your backups have already played.
The guess is that Fitzgerald will play. There’s no inside knowledge there, it’s just based on his past history of being healthy and never quitting no matter the circumstances – which have been good and bad – in Arizona.
In other news, it appears that two players are open to the idea of being dealt before the trade deadline.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman, whose relationship with head coach Greg Schiano seems to be getting worse by the minute, reportedly will ask to be shipped out. Freeman was absent from the team photo – that’s never a good thing – and the former first-round pick may want the next team photo he’s in to feature a different jersey.
Along with Freeman, Detroit Lions running back Mikel Leshoure would also welcome a change of scenary. Leshoure was inactive last week and he’s definitely behind Reggie Bush and Joique Bell on the depth chart. The former second-round selection rushed for 798 yards and nine TDs as a rookie in 2012.
Although it might be easier to move the backup Leshoure, a trade of Freeman might be more pressing. The media frenzy surrounding an unhappy starting quarterback has a chance to ruin the Bucs season and a loss to the New Orleans Saints today would drop Tampa to 0-2 out of the gate.
