Larry David has created quite a little firestorm that seems to be growing into a wildfire. It seems there are some people who are p!ssed that his character on HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm p!ssed, albeit accidentally, on a picture of Jesus Christ.
In the episode, Larry accidentally splashes a picture of Jesus when he is urinating at someone's house. For whatever reason, though Larry noticed the sprinkle on the face of the Jesus, he didn't wipe it away.
After Larry leaves, the two women of the house see the urine on the picture, which they assume is a teardrop (it's below Jesus' eye), and drop to their knees claiming a miracle. Jesus is crying!
Now, Twitter is all a-tweet with people who are so upset by the episode they are banding together to get the attention of Glenn Beck so that he will "expose" Larry David's supposed bigotry on his show.
The Web site, Big Hollywood, has posted an e-mail it received from someone who has promised to not watch Curb anymore. The e-mail said, "'...what I saw made me feel a little sick, extremely disappointed and a bit angry as well. I will never watch the show again as I have lost all respect and feelings of good will for Mr. David.'"
Several people have responded to the e-mail in the comments section of the piece. Oddly, one person, who describes Larry as a "Christ hater" seems to think that this action of Larry David somehow lessens the supposed anti-semitism of Mel Gibson. The person wrote, "It doesn't make Mel Gibson look anywhere near as bad, now does it?"
Another person, who vowed never to watch the show again, said, "I loved this show and thought it was so funny. All that's changed. I can't believe he is this crude and would go to this extreme to insult so many. As a Jew, he should understand compassion and sensitivity to others. I'm disgusted and disappointed."
Really, people? He didn't really p!ss on your Jesus any more than he really p!ssed on the picture of Jesus in the show. It is fiction - PRETEND - and we know you are good at pretending. You should understand this concept.
Further, in the show it was an accident. It's not like his character thought, "p!ss on Jesus!" and therefore literally p!ssed on Jesus.
Perhaps what really has these people so upset is not so much the fact that Larry's character urinated on Jesus but that he made it seem that some people are so gullible as to assume a miracle so easily without investigating what the truth of the matter may be. (And of course, we know that never happens in real life.)

HBO and others respond to Larry David 'peeing on Christ'

It's cool guys! I dig that show!
Im sure we'll see an upcoming episode where Larry David 'accidentally' takes a dump on a Menorah (hilarity!) and then wipes his ass with a Yarmulke (--PRETEND--).
If these people instinctively turn to Glenn Beck as their cultural messiah, they probably weren't big fans of Curb Your Enthusiasm to start with. Or HBO.
It's kind of annoying to read when you replace i with !.
To the writer of this piece -
Just because you as an atheist don't believe in anything - please don't p!ss on what others believe.
I will really laugh when he pees on a picture of muhammed....oh yeah forgot, you cannot even display a picture of muhammed on threat of death. Just shows what a talentless chicken he is.Was he referencing "pee Christ" in a New York "art gallery"?
Wow, Trina. Just writing about this fictional story got you in hot water. Maybe next week, you should post a cartoon drawing of Mohammed.
Since all religion is nothing but a tool of tyranny anything we do to thwart its organization and indoctrination, especially making fun of it, but more importantly confronting it directly with its nonsense, is warranted.
Gerry, the thing about this is that some Christians always take anything they can to mean that Jesus is present in a representation (albeit many times spurious) while Muslims view Mohammad as an intangibly holy figure so that an image of such is graven. Since Americans are the largest audience and Christianity is the largest population, it's only suitable that Christianity gets mocked in this fashion.
People overreact far too much to the mockeries that are thrown out there for the sake of laughter. It's a picture. The more offensive part should have been that people would be so stupid as to obsess over a picture that looks like its crying simply because it's an artist's rendering of Jesus; a mass produces painting of a guy that lived two millennia ago that is at the base of Christianity.
I am making a note and am interested to see how this incident plays out. Audacious
You know, the muslims might not like us christians much, but I've never seen a muslim do anything like this before - they may not believe in Christianity but they sure do respect us and our religious icons. As for the Jews, this is a group who is really starting to show its disdain and intolerance for others. From Jon Stewart to Joyce Behar to Larry King to Seinfeld - just one Christian insult after another.
classic, will have to see it! :)
Welcome to freedom of speech. Like it or get out of the country! LD..you are a genius!
I LOVE THIS GUY LARRY DAVID!
Larry David is also known to have urinated on the Koran.
"...As a Jew, he should understand compassion and sensitivity to others. I'm disgusted and disappointed."
Hahaha! It seems to me that whatever brilliant mind came up with this gem of a quote hasn't actually watched the show at all. If she had, she would know that the whole point of Curb Your Enthusiasm is that Larry David has no compassion, understanding, or sensitivity to others at all. It's the gimmick that's used in each and every episode as the main plot device. What a moron. I have no compassion either.
Larry David is just another in a long line of Jews who hate anything and everything to do with Christianity.
I wonder what John Hagee thinks about this.
Hey Mike: get a life! Larry David: you are hysterical! This is pretend, people. If there is a group bringing this to Glenn Beck, this country has bigger problems than Larry David.
This is hilarious! If people are turning to Glenn Beck, then this country has a lot more problems than Larry David.
Maybe they can have an episode where a Rabbi, a Priest and a Mullah, get to urinate on the face of this schmuck.
Perhaps a photo of Larry David's mother could be used to cover the show's make believe urinal bowl. I am sure she would appreciate her son's humor with gusto.
A fictional character has a disregard for other people's feelings and beliefs. Many shows are like that. It may be a little crass, but it's entertainment tv. Some people like it. Besides, every decent show has its quesionable episodes. It shouldn't be a reason to stop watching a show you "love." It's one episode. Watch the shows you like and don't get angry and complain whenever the tv characters don't do what you would do. And don't use religion a ground to stand on. Relax a bit.
Larry David is also known to have urinated on the Koran.
This is textbook Judaism along with the recent rants of Sarah Silverman. Open up the Talmud to see what it says of Jesus Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Talmud makes the Koran look like Mother Goose.
I'm amazed that your examiner company allows your usage of profanity throughout your headline and story, albeit with an exclamation mark for the "i", because clearly you have other words in the English language that would substitute. I find your offensive attempt at an article with this story, which is based upon a fake act on a show, rather than the Larry David deliberate act you proport in your salacious headline, is worse than the show itself.
Yeah that is quite funny. Wonder in our hyper politcally correct world how funny it would be if he had urinated on Allah. Then all heck would have broken loose and the media and other talking heads would be worried about how we have no sensitity towards muslims. Be honest with yourselves - in this country bashing Christianity as become in vogue while bashing Muslims is off limits. So sad.
Once again, nonsense belief leads to anger and hysteria.
I've never watched this show before, but now I might have to look into it.
I wonder how many times they had to had to redo this scene? I can here the director saying, "Ok Larry pee on the picture, roll camera's, go". "No no cut cut, do it again" All actors are liars by definition. Cut. That's a take.
Jesus was a Jew and therefore must have had quite a sense of humor. Where is your sense of humor?
Also, Larry was peeing into the toilet when the drop of something splashed up and hit the painting. It's more likely water splashed up.
Watch the show before you cast judgement. Something Jesus would never do.
For every crazy Christian who will stop watching the show, two regular people will start watching out of curiosity.
Additionally, where were all these people demanding a little sensitivity after LAST week's episode, where Larry dates a handicapped woman for personal gain and shoves another in a closet to avoid being exposed?
It's all fun and games until they pick on YOUR god.
Boy, that was easy! I just called the cable company and canceled HBO, and got Cinemax for the same price. It feels great that I never have to hear Larry David or Bill Maher's lame attempts at humor again!
For those of you who suggest HBO's broadcast might actually encourage more people (or you)to watch? Adam, Ryan, others? There is a place in free society for the easily entertained sheep among the population. I encourage you to watch HBO. The level of entertainment associated with the urinating scene certainly rises to a level of class and dignity that should fit well with your priorities. But here is the good news. Your opinion has no bearing on my willingness to write a check monthly to cover HBO service. I am happy to choose to pocket the dollars during these hard times. And I shall. But for you? Pay for it if you wish, but you can see urinating first hand hanging out at the public bathrooms. And in real time, too. So here is a resounding baaah to the easily influenced flock amongst us!
Actually I think it's funny... "water" somehow got on the Jesus picture making it look like a teardrop only to have gullible believers (redundant?) conclude that Jesus is weeping. Like this doesn't happen for real all the time.
That it is urine makes it even more humorous, although crude for my tastes. If Larry shook his wet hands before drying them getting some water on the picture but resulting in the same response from the believers in the show would this change things for those who are offended?
Those who find this episode "funny" and proclaim freedom of speech, are the same ones that were whining about "Passion of the christ" and how it portrayed jews in a bad light. Hypocritical Hollywood liberals can kiss my ass
If the sketch was him urinating on Allah or Mohammed the Joke wouldn't work. They do not have the whole 'crying statue' myth associated with them. Which is the point of the Joke. Jesus wasn't picked because it was an easier target, Jesus was picked because it was the whole point of the joke. It's the sort of awkward situation that would happen to his character (have you people ever seen the show?)
Morons...
hahaaaa this is so funny. The fact that this made people upset (probably Christians) , makes it THAT much better. L-David is a comical genius. Lose 1 fan, gain 10 more.
Hey Brian, I bet a donkey butt fuking your mom and sister is really funny too
Why should Christianity be off limits? A brief look at the "Curb Your Enthusiasm" plot summaries reveals that many groups are targets:
"In the premier episode, Larry jokingly refers to his wife Cheryl as 'Hitler', offending his manager Jeff's conservative Jewish parents."
"Larry repeatedly offends a hearing impaired girl about the small dog she keeps with her. "
"Larry accuses a Korean Bookie of cooking up Jeff's dog and serving him for dinner."
"Larry dates a disabled woman for the first time, and is his usual tactless, self-centered self."
"Larry offends a Japanese restaurant owner by implying that the owner's father was not a real Kamikaze pilot."
So again, why is it OK to make fun of these groups, but not Christianity?
Christians are stupid. They don't mind to burn who don't agree with then if they could. That's the real philosophy of their god. Sorry for the poor english, i'm not from usa.
This is a hate crime, pure and simple.
Is "p!ss" really that strong of a word that you have to censor it? If so, then why use the word to begin with? There are plenty of other words you could use. Why do people think it's perfectly acceptable to say something, but unacceptable to write it? We have no problems saying "God," for instance, but some people write "G*d" like it's some magical word that can never be written. Why treat "p!ss" the same way? It's a harmless onomatopoeia.
PS OMFG this comment is being censored for using the word p1ss. It says, "your comment is blocked for inappropriate language." But it's not inappropriate at all. In fact, it's entirely appropriate to the discussion of this word.
Anyone offended is stupid, just like all Christians are stupid, just like all followers of religion (believers of magic) are stupid and gullible.
Ean YOU are stupid
I am a Christian Mystic. While it is impossible to shake my faith that Jesus is the Supreme Being, this kind of behavior begs antisemitism to return full strength to any Jews who disrespect the Christian religion. I will keep my love and respect for all religions alive. Larry David will get what he deserves. Any bloggers herein that think religion is going to die, remember how small your population is. There are 2.2 billion Christians, another billion Hindus that love Jesus Christ, and another half a billion Buddhists who love him too.
Honestly, what is so funny about Larry David and the whole Seinfeld cast? Did anyone ever REALLY watch either one of these shows? The shows are about some people that really are not very nice people. Unfortunately, they aren't just acting. They are rude, disrespectful, insulting, racist, and now you can ad anti-Christian to the list. You shouldn't mess with religious leaders of any kind, especially Jesus. Your a fool Larry David. I could not curb my enthusiasm today, and with all my enthusiasm
I happily canceled our HBO subscription today. When Larry David is off the air... that is when I will reinstate my subscription. Until then...Good riddance!
Well... considering the height of the splash, I feel confident in contributing my expert medical by saying that it is obvious that Larry David does not have a prostate problem.
P.S.: Good shot, Larry.
I hope a Christian celebrity poops on the star of david on TV.
Hey Pete you don't get it and "No" I don't watch the show and never would. I don't care about the symbolism - my point is that if something was done to offend any other religous group other than Christians or Jews the politcally correct of this country would be up in arms. But at this time in our country it is Ok to step on and make fun of Christians without regard to how important their faith is to them...
Moron back at you.
